GEM-SANA contributes to slowing the development of germs thanks to the combination of poplar and alder, the main plant sources of propolis. Bees collect the resin from these buds, which are rich in flavonoids, to produce their propolis.

This propolis has a hygienic role for bees, among other things, by creating a protective layer against invasions of bacteria or fungi. Poplar buds have long been considered "propolis-like", a protective tree, and black alder is a robust extract resistant to rot.
